Scorpio tattoo: best ideas and meaning

Scorpio gives nothing away for free – intensity, control and a long memory. If you were born between 23 October and 21 November, the motifs that fit have a sharp shape to them. The whole creature, or just the stinger?

Scorpio tattoo: best ideas and meaning

Scorpio in tattooing: what each symbol means

The scorpion is one of the most tattooable shapes there is – the segmented tail leads the eye naturally and can be stretched along almost any part of the body. That is exactly why this sign is among the most frequently tattooed.

The glyph is an M finished with an arrow – easy to confuse with the Virgo glyph, the difference being that barb. The stinger alone, or a curved tail, works as shorthand for anyone who does not want the whole animal.

Styles that suit Scorpio

Blackwork and realism are the strongest here – the shell and the segments of the tail are asking for contrast. Dotwork gives the surface a texture that suits this motif better than smooth shading.

Fine line works for small versions and for the glyph. Neo-traditional is the option for colour – a bold outline keeps the shape over time, which is not a given on a motif with this much internal detail.

Where to place it

The scorpion stretches along lines: forearm, calf, ribs, down the spine or across the collarbone. That is its advantage – the motif adapts to almost any placement. The glyph is small and sits on the wrist, ankle or behind the ear.
